The Jonesboro City Council has tabled two ordinances for 60 days to continue a review process--one of them is a controversial landscaping and tree ordinance.
A committee will be formed to look at how to revise the ordinance on landscaping and trees. The original ordinance set minimum standards on tree preservation and landscaping in multifamily developments, as well as new business development.
The ordinance would have required a certain amount of green spaces and new trees or shrubs depending on the size of the project.
Some for the ordinance say it is needed since so much property is being cleared out in Jonesboro for development. Those against the ordinance say it is vague and can be confusing for developers.
The committee will have two months to work on a revision, or the original ordinance will be voted on in November.
Also, an ordinance concerning funding the new shooting sports complex in Jonesboro has been tabled. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin says a meeting will take place soon between city officials and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission about more grants that could be used for building the center.
