“I must confess that I lead a miserable life,” said Beethoven in a letter to a friend in 1801.
At this time Beethoven, coming to terms with his deafness, had withdrawn from society out of shame. This struggle is also responsible for bringing out a change in his creative output that led to the Triple Concerto, the only concerto Beethoven ever completed that features more than one solo instrument.
