Of Note for Tue., July 19, 2016: When Struggle Inspires Art

“I must confess that I lead a miserable life,” said Beethoven in a letter to a friend in 1801.

At this time Beethoven, coming to terms with his deafness, had withdrawn from society out of shame. This struggle is also responsible for bringing out a change in his creative output that led to the Triple Concerto, the only concerto Beethoven ever completed that features more than one solo instrument. Hear a recording of this piece featuring violinist Guiliano Carmignola, pianist Dejan Lazic, and cellist Sol Gabetta from 8 to 10 p.m. on KUAF.

Listen to it in its entirety streaming below until July 25.
