DISASTERS AND ARCHEOLOGY The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will hold its meeting Wednesday, September 11 at 7pm at the Washington County Cooperative Extension Office. Guest speaker George Sabo III will present “Disasters and Archeology.” The horrific events that took place on this date in 2001 brought forth a wide range of emergency responses. Archeologists participated as members of World Trade Center response teams, and they have also helped investigate other, similarly tragic events. This presentation will review three dimensions of relationships between disasters and archeology: 1) archeological and forensic science to investigate modern disaster events; 2) archeological study of the consequences of past disasters and the community responses; and 3) the effects of modern disasters on archeological records and what is required to prevent serious information losses. This event will be held at the Washington County Cooperative Extension Office at 2536 N. McConnell Ave., Fayetteville, behind the Arkansas Archeological Survey building and across from the Washington County Fairgrounds entrance. Refreshments served. Free and open to the public.
