A male Three-toed Box Turtle, which can live up to 70 years, suns itself at Beaver Lake Nursery Pond.

Today is World Turtle Day, so we're taking the time to appreciate Arkansas turtles with herpetologist Kory Roberts, author of the website Herps of Arkansas. World Turtle Day has been sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue since 2000. Its purpose is to increase knowledge and respect for turtles and tortoises and to encourage action to help them survive and thrive.

Jacqueline Froelich is an investigative reporter and news producer for Ozarks at Large.
