Charlie Parker, the legendary saxophonist and composer, was born 100 years ago this Saturday. Some of the area's most familiar jazz musicians will perform his music at George's Majestic Lounge that afternoon.
The fourth season of the Northwest Arkansas Youth Jazz Ensemble started normally, but as it comes to a close, the pandemic has led to changes to the annual concert and provided some opportunities, like a livestreamed performance.
The second annual Fayettevile Jazz Festival is this Friday and Saturday. Instead of concerts and classes on the University of Arkansas campus and at the Fayetteville Public Library, the festival is taking place on YouTube from homes around the world.
This week, University of Arkansas Music Professor Lia Uribe introduces us to the various interpretations of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. We'll hear Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, as well as Bela Fleck's rendition of Partita No. 1003, Gabriela Montero's performance of Air in G and Violin Concerto in A minor by Bobby McFerrin.
The band Route 358 has performed throughout Northwest Arkansas for the past few years. Despite the pandemic, they have completed their first full-length album, titled Peregrination, Vol. 1. The band will officially release the album with a socially distanced outdoor show Saturday at Prairie Street Live in Fayetteville. Last week, we spoke with Jodi, Jade and Derrick Mears from their home about the new album.
