Have you ever wanted to unravel the mysteries of our past? To dig through ancient ruins? To crack a whip like Indiana Jones?
Okay, the Indiana Jones stuff might not happen, but the University of Arkansas Department of Anthropology has an opportunity for all the wannabe archeologists and explorers out there.
The department will host an open house this Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the basement of Old Main on the UA campus. The event will give the public a chance to learn about student and faculty research and, yes, to check out some bones and fossils too.
Each year, headlines report captivating anthropological findings, but people are mostly in the dark about what anthropology really is. Dr. Claire Terhune, an assistant professor in the department, says the field is important because it constantly sheds light on "what it means to be human."
Terhune joined Pete Hartman in studio to talk about what the public can expect from the open house and why she considers everyone an anthropologist.
