The inaugural Pride Ride was held in Bentonville Sunday ahead of a Beer & Hymns concert at 8th Street Market to raise money for Pride at NWACC. Ride organizers say they would like to see more Pride events in Bentonville and other Northwest Arkansas cities in conjunction with Pride Weekend festivities held in Fayetteville.
Northwest Arkansas Pride 2019 will feature the 15th annual Pride Parade in downtown Fayetteville. Before and after the pride, though, will be events featuring art, drag shows, music and more designed for participation from the entire community.
Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin, Houston-based interdisciplinary visual artists, are creating fifty installations connecting LGBTQ histories in all fifty states pre-Stonewall to current day. The couple is currently investigating a mysterious turn-of-the-20th century bi-racial gay couple who lived in Harrison as the subject of their Arkansas exhibit.
The 14-minute film Misdirection, written and directed by Carly Usdin, features a college freshman with OCD suffering from a failed crush who discovers the healing power of street magic. The queer comedy will be shown during a third round competition for film shorts, which begins at 3:15 p.m. May 11 in the Walmart Museum World Room.
