KUAF Arts Beat: Huge Lightning Comedy Festival Back for Year Two

courtesy of Jordan Haynes

The Huge Lightning Comedy Festival is back for a second year. Organizers and married couple Hope and Jordan Haynes will once again bring a wide variety of regional and national comedic acts, as well as musicians and other performers, together for a weekend of fun in Fayetteville.

This year's festival will take place April 20-22 at Path Outfitters on the Fayetteville Square. Haynes had the idea for the festival when he moved back to Fayetteville after spending over four years in the Chicago, he said.

"We did a lot of fun work in the comedy scene in Chicago and knew when we were coming back to Fayetteville that we would love to bridge the gap between those two cool art and comedy scenes," Haynes said. "Last year was jammed packed."

Ashley Nicole Black from the show "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" will be teaching an improv workshop April 22. The weekend's acts range from experienced Chicago improv troupes and stand up comedians to local groups like Rodeo Book Club, the University of Arkansas troupe Laugh Track and Field and the theater game Bango! from Artist's Laboratory Theatre.

"We, the ensemble of five artists, created these 40 pieces (of theater), and the audience plays a game of binge and we play the correlating scenes," said Erika Wilhite, a performer and artistic director at the Artist's Laboratory Theatre. "It's a random, fresh performance every night."

The complete lineup can be found at hugelightning.com. Ticket for each event ranges from $10-15 and can be purchased through the website.
