A native of Tehran, Iran, Amirvaghefi came to the United States to pursue her Master of Fine Arts at the School of Art at the University of Arkansas, where she now serves an instructor and as assistant director to the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
"Most of my work these days is related to sport, and sport imagery," she explains regarding her work in the show. "The reason and context behind it is the relationship between artists, and athletics, and how religion, politics, and gender, and all of these things effect each other."
See her work, along with eight other artists curated by Art Ventures Gallery for the "Islamic Art in Context" show, which closes Friday, May 17. Listen to the full KUAF Arts Beat in the streaming link below.
