A love of literature and a dream of having an independent bookshop in their own town led Monica Diodati and Rachel Stuckey Slaton to form Two Friends Books and Records, a pop-up in downtown Bentonville. In a world where anything the heart desires is orderable simply by picking up your phone, they believe a bookstore provides something invaluable to a community.
"There's just an entirely different experience clicking a button on Amazon parusing books, touching them, talking to the owners and other customers," describes Slaton. "We view it as a place where people can come and gather who love to read and talk about books. There's a much more communal aspect to a bookstore than shopping online."
They've set up shop at Airship Coffee for the 2018 holiday shopping season with a full calendar of activities and events including live music and poetry readings.
