Rarely Seen 1920s Native American Docudrama Screened with World Premiere Live Scoring

A docudrama made with an all Kiowa and Comanche cast in 1920s Oklahoma, two years beforethe seminal Nanook of the North debuted, was lost until 2005 and only now seeing release on DVD. This rarely screened film, which the Library of Congress calls "one of American's most important motion pictures," receives a screening tonight at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center along with a world premiere live scoring from the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra.

"Eighty-five percent of silent films are lost," explains Frank Scheide, UA communications professor, "and the fact that this film still exists when so few prints were made is quite remarkable." Find out more in my interview with Scheide about this special screening and live scoring of the Daughter of Dawn available to stream below.
