U.S. Rep. Steve Womack, R-Rogers, outlined Congress’ critical funding priorities – including money to address the Zika crisis – and said there is no doubt in his mind that Donald Trump would be superior as Commander-in-chief over Hillary Clinton as President.

Womack, who appeared on this Sunday’s episode of Talk Business & Politics, retired with the rank of Colonel in the Arkansas Army National Guard in 2009 and has more than 30 years of military experience.

“I don’t think there’s any question that the best Commander-in-chief will be Donald Trump,” said Womack, who emphasized that the world has become much “less secure” in the last eight years.

“A Commander-in-chief has a tremendous amount of responsibility in helping craft the strategies that our country is going to pursue around the world to make the world more safe. I think Donald Trump is one of those guys. As he’s already said, he’s going to empower those generals, he’s going to listen to the people who have the experience and ability to command at those levels,” he said.

“What I like about Mr. Trump’s approach right now is one of the first things out of the box is he’s going to ask these generals to develop a plan for how we rid this world of ISIS,” Womack added. “I’m very comfortable with a Trump-Pence ticket as it concerns national security.”

Womack said there are two crucial tasks that Congress, despite gridlock and election year politics, must take care of before a planned October break. First, the Third District Congressman said that a funding bill to keep the government operational is priority number one. He also said that funding to address the Zika crisis was a necessity.

“We’ve got a major humanitarian crisis going on, not just around the world, but clearly in our Southern United States,” said Womack. “We can’t leave town and not have addressed the emerging crisis of Zika in this country.”
