Scratching the Surface: A History of Voyager

Welcome to Scratching the Surface with Caitlin Ahrens, the Pluto Manager at the Center for Space and Planetary Science.

In 1977 humans took the first plunge into planetary science with the launch of Voyager 2. Forty years later, Voyager remains an icon of space exploration and its images are famous reminders of the wonder of space. Today, the missions continue, going further than any other man-made object.

In this episode, Caitlin gives a quick history of Voyager - from the deceptive naming to the opportune planetary alignment that made it possible.

Scratching the Surface airs Fridays at 2:04 pm. For more on the Center for Space and Planetary Science, visitspacecenter.uark.edu/
