Scratching the Surface: Jupiter, The Comet Eater

This is Scratching the Surface from Caitlin Ahrens, the Pluto Manager at the Center for Space and Planetary Science. 

Today we look at the fifth and largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter. Specifically at 24 years ago, when the gas giant "ate" an entire comet. The Shoemaker-Levy 9 Comet collision gave scientists a better understanding of Jupiter and the role it may play in reducing debris in space.
