Yesterday, Springdale leaders broke ground on what will eventually be the second-largest park in the city. Shaw Family Park will be located on 120 acres on the west edge of the city.

Often Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is seen as a Mexican equivalent of Halloween. But thanks to community organization and an art exhibit from the Arts Center of the Ozarks in Springdale many are finding renewed interest in the holiday and its cultural significance, especially outside of Mexico.

One of Springdale's best known public servants died Monday. Walter Turnbow was 95. A champion of education and economic development, Turnbow left his mark on the Springdale School District, the city's water utility and the regional Beaver Water District.

Mercy Northwest Arkansas' new multispecialty facility is almost ready to start accepting patients. The $47 million clinic will offer primary and specialty care and includes a 24-hour emergency department.

At their meeting Tuesday evening, the Springdale City Council voted 6-1 to approve a resolution that declares the city as pro-life. Alderman Colby Fulfer says he presented the resolution after learning Planned Parenthood was considering relocating to Springdale. The organization closed its Fayetteville clinic in July.
