KUAF Arts Beat: A Painter Finds Space in Smaller

Painter Brett Baker turned his limitations into innovation after a move from a large studio in Upstate New York to a tiny space in New York City. Used to creating large scale works, he was forced to downsize.   "While I associated scale with gravitas or seriousness I found there was a lot more space for me to work in these small paintings and a lot more space in the paintings that just hadn't been there," he explains.

These newer small scale works take years to complete, meaning layer upon layer until a thick density of paint culminates in the final object. Baker's paintings are currently on display at Bottle Rocket Gallery in Fayetteville with an opening reception tonight at 7 p.m.
