Sunday Symphony for June 12, 2016: Shostakovich Under Stalin's Shadow

“The greatness of Shostakovich’s music lies beyond politics,” Maestro Andris Nelsons says. “It speaks to people whether they know the times he lived in or not.”

Shostakovich, as a Soviet composer, persisted under the scrutiny of Stalin's regime, producing extraordinary pieces that are timeless. Boston Symphony Orchestra continues their recording series of "Shostakovich: Under Stalin’s Shadow" with Symphonies 5, 8, and 9.  Catch highlights from this release from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on KUAF.
