Tweets Could Save Lives, Time in Emergencies

There were 20 million tweets in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Ashlea Milburn, assistant professor of industrial engineering at the University of Arkansas, was awarded a $500,000 grant to research how emergency management agencies can integrate such social media posts into their response plans.  It is a five year grant, and Milburn says the current phase involves spending time with managers to learn the obstacles with which they are faced.
