Of Note for Tuesday, June 30, 2015: Bela Fleck's Banjo Chamber Music

Banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck first tried his hand at classical composition in 2010 when commissioned by the Nashville Symphony to write a concerto. When it came time to put together a recording of the concerto, which clocked in at 36 minutes, he needed to pair it with another piece.

In the liner notes he says the idea with the most resonance was to write for banjo and string quartet, which is now "Night Flight Over Water" came into being. Hear the studio recording, featuring Bela Fleck and Brooklyn Rider on Tuesday's program.
