OLLI- Geographic Observation With Drones

OLLI- Geographic Observation With Drones

This program introduces the history of drones and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and includes a full demonstration of their uses. University of Arkansas professors, Jason Tullis and Dr. Brad Peters, will present information on personal remote sensing, airspace regulations, geographic or geospatial data, drone platforms and sensors, photogrammetric concepts, cyberinfrastructure, air mobility initiatives in Northwest Arkansas, and safety in flight operations. A field component will include introductory preflight and flight, demonstration of automated survey and autonomous scanning of a 3D structure. Participants will have the opportunity to fly a small UAS (under 55 lbs) with support from subject matter experts at the U of A.

*Note: The class portion (session 1) will be held at the OLLI office building while the demonstration session will be held at Agri Park.
For the second session, participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and to bring a lawn chair.
