The UARK Jazz Festival is continuing through part of next week. Last night, Artist-in-Residence Steve Wilson performed with the UofA jazz faculty at the Music Depot in downtown Rogers. Tomorrow night, Wilson is performing with the NWACC All-Stars, UofA faculty and students at Thaden School as part of the UofA College Concert.

Earlier this month, Ozark at Large’s Sophia Nourani was able to get a sneak peak of the new Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research, or I3R, on the UofA campus. Walking alongside Dr. Ranu Jung, associate vice chancellor of the university and founding executive director of the institute, Sophia had the chance to discuss the space and some of the work that will be done there.

Fresh Grass begins on Friday, May 16. The two-day festival at The Momentary includes about two dozen performances from Rosanne Cash, Shakey Graves, Willie Carlisle and more. The Air Force’s Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble will begin a seven-concert Arkansas swing Saturday. Among the Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble performers is Technical Sergeant Tyler Kennamer, a Fayetteville High School graduate in charge of the Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, who says the Air Force Band's mission is to honor, inspire and connect.

The fifth annual Levitt AMP Fort Smith music series starts on April 3. The five-part concert series brings national touring acts alongside Fort Smith and other regional musicians.
