Osher Lifelong Learning Insitute - 100 Years and Counting- History of Mt. Seq

Mount Sequoyah, a thriving 400-acre haven was established in 1922 as a multi-state summer and spiritual retreat by the Methodist Episcopal Church for the southern jurisdiction. Originally called East Mountain, the property was renamed Mount Sequoyah honoring the creator of the Cherokee alphabet, Sequoyah. The retreat opened its doors for the first time during the summer of 1923. The unique history, including the development, spiritual focus, cultural aspect, important events, and the impact it had on the Northwest Arkansas community will be shared. Mrs. Gentry, Mt. Sequoyah's President & CEO, will also focus on what is currently happening and how participants can become involved in the organization's present and future. After the presentation, there will be a campus tour of the spaces and buildings. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking. Activity Level: 1
