Osher Lifelong Learning Insitute - Can We Live on Mars?
There is more of a focus now than ever on Mars habitability. Research is being conducted around the world to prepare Mars for potential mass agriculture, extensive crewed missions, and eventual terraformation, the process of engineering the planet to inhabit human life. Shelby Osburne, University of Arkansas PhD candidate and former intern at NASA HQ will discuss the latest research related to projects aimed to take human life to Mars. The class will dive deep into published, peer-reviewed research and cover topics related to planetary protection, astronautics, space policy, habitability, origins of life, atmospheric and geochemical terraformation, aerospace engineering, biodome technology, Mars agriculture, water/ice cycling, photochemistry, and microbiology. What will it take to sustain on Mars...?
