Unyielding: A Family’s Fight Against Childhood Illness
New Exhibition Brings Advocacy, Art, and Family Stories Into the Public Eye
Van Buren AR– Artist and educator Amy Scoggins announces her upcoming exhibition, Unyielding: A Family’s Fight Against Childhood Illness, opening at Arts on Main on October 17th with a reception from 6:00-8:00pm. The show will remain on view through December 14th.
Through large-scale constructions, personal artifacts, and fragments of medical evidence, Unyielding gives visual form to the hidden struggles of chronic illness. Scoggins, an Arkansas-based mother, artist, and educator, draws from her family’s lived experience to highlight the persistence, care, and advocacy often required when illness strikes children.
“This work is not only about my own children,” Scoggins explains. “It is about the countless families navigating uncertainty, medical systems, and invisible disabilities. I want to make visible what is often unseen, and in doing so, create space for attention, compassion, and advocacy.”
Scoggins teaches drawing at the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith and has exhibited nationally. Her work has been recognized by the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Unyielding is her most personal and advocacy-driven exhibition to date.
