The NWA chapter of the American Heart Association has announced its Heart Walk will now be a virtual walk at 10 .m. April 4. A community celebration and awards ceremony is being planned for a later date.
March 13, 2020 5:45 p.m. — Springdale Suspends Events at Library, Senior Center

March 13, 2020 5:00 p.m. — U of A, UAFS, NWACC, JBU Suspend On-Campus Classes
University of Arkansas: In-person classes suspended as of March 12 and move online starting Monday, March 16. Housing, dining and other services continue to be provided, but students may choose to return to their family residences for the remainder of the semester. UAFS: There will be no on-campus classes from 5 p.m. March 13 through Sunday March 29. A decision to move classes online will not be made until March 26. More information can be found here.
NWACC: All in-person classes are suspended and will move online from Monday, March 16 to April 10. More information can be found here.
John Brown University: All in-person classes are suspended starting March 13. Students must check out of their residence halls by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16. Classes will resume online on March 30. More information can be found here.

George's Majestic Lounge issued the following statement:
"Given the Mayor’s recent declaration of the State of Emergency for the City of Fayetteville, we will heed his recommendation and close immediately until the end of the month. Our patrons, staff, and artists’ safety is paramount. Shows during this time will reschedule and refunds will be given to those who cannot attend the rescheduled date. We encourage everyone to practice the CDC’s recommended safety and health guidelines. We will release updated information as available by email and social media. Thank you for understanding and stay safe."
March 13, 2020, 10:45 a.m. — Fayetteville Mayor Declares Public Health Emergency
Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan has declared a public health emergency for the city. You can read his statement below:
“This morning after much deliberation I have made the decision to declare a public health emergency,” Mayor Jordan said. “State law empowers me to do this. This action was not taken lightly, and I feel strongly I am doing what is best for the safety of our people. The recurring theme I have seen during my research into previous pandemics is “social distancing.” Keeping people apart is the most effective action a community can take to stop the spread of a virus. For that reason, I am postponing all city-hosted meetings and events until further notice. I strongly encourage individuals, groups and organizations planning events and meetings to postpone, reschedule or move to a virtual environment. We are working diligently to develop a work schedule that will not jeopardize the city’s obligation to provide core services. Please continue to monitor our website as the information is changing hourly. I will be updating the media throughout the day on specific closings and services."

Additionally, Fayetteville Public Library announced Friday morning that all library programming has been postponed through March 30. According to a post on the library's Facebook page, the library will remain open during regular hours, and weekly story times will be viewable through the library's Livestream feed.

Bella Vista Arbor Day Celebration: The city's Arbor Day proclamation and tree planting ceremony originally scheduled for March 16 is being postponed.
Fayetteville Goddess Festival: The upcoming Fayetteville Goddess Festival is canceled, but the Saturday, March 21st performance featuring Ginger Doss, Lynda Millard, S.J. Tucker, and Renee Janski will be streamed as a virtual event. Details can be found at the Faytteville Goddess Festival facebook or official website.
Under the Big Top Gala: The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum's Annual Gala taking place Friday March 14th, Under the Big Top, is canceled. The gala will be rescheduled as soon as it is safe to do so, and the museum will remain open until further notice.
Probem Solving Days: Two upcoming Problem Solving Days, hosted by the Legal Aid of Arkansas Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and the Taxpayer Advocate Service of the IRS, have been canceled. The Problem Solving Days have been posponed from April 8th and 9th to a future date. In the meantime, any taxpayers who need help with their tax controversy should call the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at 479-442-0600 ext. 6304.
Laughter & Libations: Trike Theatre's fundraising event Laughter & Libations to take place today, March 13th, is canceled. More details about an alternative event will be released as soon as a date is set. Instead, Laughter & Libations will be holding Virtual Micro Parties online through Facebook from 8:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Bidding for items will begin at 5 p.m.
