June 2, 2020 2:09 p.m. — In today's COVID-19 update, Gov. Asa Hutchinson reported the state has 7,818 positive cases, an increase of 375 from yesterday. One of the new cases comes from a correctional facility. Hospitalizations have increased by 11 for a total of 132, a new record. Arkansas has 136 deaths related to the coronavirus, an increase of 3.
The governor said 3,807 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours with a 4.4 percent positivity rate. Hutchinson said they're setting a goal to complete 120,000 tests in June. That's double the goal in May.
The state has a total of 2,115 active cases. There are 65 new cases in Benton County and 57 new cases in Washington County.
Gov. Hutchinson said according to a new report, state revenue in May was up $80 million over the revised forecast. Revenue is 3.4% below May 2019. He said this is good compared to what the projections were.
Hutchinson said he observed peaceful protests until about 10 p.m. last night and Arkansas State Police arrested 5 Arkansas residents. The governor said he expects law enforcement to be out again tonight and prepared to make arrests as necessary if protests turn violent or include destruction of property.
