Album Advance: Collin vs. Adam's Bloodsucker

The Little Rock four-piece Collin vs. Adam triumph after tragedy in their sophomore release Bloodsucker.

What started out in 2011 as a project formed by Adam Hogg (vocals, keyboard, drum machine) and Collin Buchanan (guitar) became a full band when Mike Motley (drums) and Mason Mauldin (bass) filled in the pieces for debut Centuries.  Just as the band was scheduled to perform at the Arkansas Times Showcase in 2013 they found out Maudlin died when a plane he was piloting crashed. Before Mauldin's death he'd laid down bass for much of their forthcoming release, Bloodsucker.

Dedicated to the memory of Mauldin, their sophomore release hits hard with a blues-y guitar rock garage style ala  Black Keys, filled out by rollicking synths, wailing sax, and even a guest appearance from rapper 607 on "Information."

"It was really profoundly shocking to lose a best friend like that," says Motley who'd played in bands with Mauldin for a decade. "For me, this record is the culmination of that. Releasing it is really important because its something we started together and it's a way to honor his memory."

Bass tracking not completed by Mauldin was filled out with the help of Matthew Lewis and the current iteration of Collin vs. Adam now features Brian Wolf, bass. Listen to the entirety of Bloodsucker exclusively here prior to the official album release show at White Water Tavern in Little Rock Friday, Oct. 3.
