We Each Have a Role to Play

My brother is a senior leader for a major airline. A couple of nights ago, he said to me, “We know how to fly planes, but we don’t know how not to fly planes.”

That sentiment, I would say, applies to most of us. We are good at doing our work in the way that we learned how to do it. Now, we are being asked to do something we have never done before, and it is unnerving. There is nothing that has not been turned upside down.

But what is keeping me moving forward is the cool heads all around me. I know inside their skins, people are scrambling. But at least at Church Health, our teams are working together, on our front lines at our clinic, and now from home to support the doctors, nurses, and medical staff. The team’s work is the most impressive thing.

It only took a couple of days, and now my brother’s airline is functioning as a freight system, flying supplies from China to help America’s developing crisis. It is not what they were designed to do, but it is what they are now committed to do.

Each of us has a new part to play in keeping our society whole. We all just need to find our role.

This is Dr. Scott Morris with Church Health.
