Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a partner with the Arkansas School for the Blind and the Visually Impaired and the Arkansas School for the Deaf in a pilot program to make the museum’s art more accessible.

Yesterday, students from both schools spent several hours at the museum, learning about the art and about careers in the museum industry. Michelle Flournoy, Senior Director of Learning at Crystal Bridges, says the goal of the pilot project is for the learning to go both ways.

Nicole Walsh, the superintendent for the Arkansas School for the Deaf, said discussions about the field trip started last September. The museum staff created the curriculum for the day-long field trip. Since travel from the school campuses is four hours by school bus, the schools arranged for the students to stay overnight at Camp War Eagle and to visit the University of Arkansas.
