Community Spotlight: Carwash Pledge Program

Rachel speaks with Kristen Crawley from the University of Arkansas Urban Stormwater Education Program about a new program aimed at reducing waterway pollution.

Northwest Arkansas residents who pledge to wash their vehicles at a carwash, rather than at home, will be entered to win prizes, including $100 gift cards, as well as a grand prize of one year of free carwashes.

Washing vehicles in driveways and on the street sends soap, grease, and other pollutants directly into local creeks and streams, damaging aquatic ecosystems. But the drainage systems at carwashes are specifically designed to reduce that contamination, by sending wastewater to wastewater treatment plants rather than into our local waterways.

The Know The Flow pledge program will run through August 31, 2024.
