Jonesboro, Nettleton to lift mask mandates before Thanksgiving break

Another school district in Jonesboro is lifting their mask mandate this week just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Nettleton Public Schools on Tuesday posted on Facebook that their school board has voted to lift the mandate across the district effective on Friday. The district says that the mandate may be reinstated if COVID-19 cases increase again in Craighead County.

Jonesboro Public Schools posted on Facebook on November 9 that the school board voted to lift the mask mandate citing declining COVID-19 infections across the district since the start of the school year.

The district says after Friday, masks can still be worn, but aren't required and the mandate might be reinstated if necessary.

Data from the Arkansas Centers for Health Improvement shows that residents in the Jonesboro and Nettleton School Districts as of Thursday has had fewer than 10 new infections within a 14 day period, but the vaccination rate is 40-59%.

Over 100 public school districts, including Jonesboro and Nettleton, and charter schools had required masks since a judge blocked an Arkansas law that prevents schools and other governmental entities from enacting mask mandates.
