Osher Lifelong Learning Institute: Gardening for Butterflies and Beyond
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute: Gardening for Butterflies and Beyond
Join Kitty Sanders, Butterfly
House Mentor at the Botanical Garden
of the Ozarks and steering committee member
of the Arkansas Monarch Conservation
Partnership for this program highlighting
some of the more common native butterflies
of Arkansas.
Participants in this class will explore the fundamentals of designing a garden for
butterflies including plant selection, sitting
the garden, and other things that
should be considered. How creating
such a garden can benefit many other organisms
(the birds and the bees) will also
be part of the focus.
Special emphasis will be given to the
monarch butterfly. The life cycle and migration
of this fascinating insect will be
examined along with a discussion of its precipitous population decline.
