KUAF Internships

Deadlines for applying for an internship with KUAF for the remainder of 2023 and 2024 are:

April 5, 2024 to apply to intern in Summer 2024
July 8, 2024 to apply to intern Fall semester 2024

KUAF has internships in our news, development, marketing, and production programs. Interns who work in the Fall and Spring semesters will receive course credit. Summer interns will receive a stipend for their work. Plus, you'll get great work experience for your resume!

News Intern - 1 position per semester, 1 position in summer

News interns assist the news team with writing and research for news stories and capturing and editing audio for produced pieces. They also attend daily news meetings and learn about production of a local, hour-long news program.

Working closely with reporters and producers of Ozarks at Large, as well as KUAF News Director, the News Intern will:

  • Write, research, and edit copy for news stories
  • Assist in the production of audio news stories, including gathering natural sounds and interviews,
  • Edit audio for news stories, learn best practices for audio storytelling, news coverage, presentation, and more

Fundraising and Development Intern - 1 position per semester, not including summer

KUAF’s development intern is responsible for helping the Development team in maintaining donor records, entering funds in the station database, coordinating and training volunteers, helping with the preparation and execution of events and on-air fundraisers and other duties as assigned for the station. 

Working with the Membership Director and Underwriting Director, the development intern is responsible for the following: 

  • Learning and maintaining the station’s membership database Allegiance, entering checks and other revenue into Allegiance, changing donor addresses, running Underwriting billing and more
  • Helping prepare and execute the on-air fundraisers by writing fundraising copy for email campaigns, online and social media posts, and on-air pitching
  • Helping with donor communications including renewal mail, monthly reminders, e-newsletters, social media and more
  • Helping with station events in all aspects of preparation, execution and evaluation
  • Other duties as assigned

Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern - 2 positions per semester, 1 position in summer

KUAF’s social media and digital marketing intern is responsible for promotion of station initiatives, news stories, music programs, and fundraisers through station social media accounts and digital marketing efforts.

Working with the Membership Director, Underwriting Director,  and General Manager, the marketing intern is responsible for the following: 

  • Creating, posting and curating content that interacts with KUAF listenership through KUAF's social media outlets
  • Creating, scheduling and tracking email campaigns through Constant Contact to KUAF's email lists
  • Creating digital stories on KUAF.com for distribution through social media and newsletters
  • Creating social media and email campaigns for each of KUAF's four on-air fundraisers each year
  • Tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of social media posts and email campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned, especially in the coordination and digital marketing of station

Production and Operations Intern - 2 positions per semester, 1 position in summer

KUAF's production intern works with KUAF Operations Manager to assist with some or all of the following:

  • Oversee online public service announcements, capture and create copy for on-air PSAs
  • Oversee the general KUAF email account and disperse messages as appropriate
  • Learn spot production and editing, gathering audio for sonic IDs
  • Creating digital files for on-air fundraisers
  • Creating, posting and curating local content and national content from NPR, APM and PRI for KUAF's social media outlets
  • Create podcasts by editing audio, producing and posting

Hours, Course Credit, and Stipends

KUAF interns in the Fall and Spring semesters are required to work at least 10 hours a week. Summer internships require 20 hours a week. Interns will receive course credit during the Fall and Spring semesters and will be paid a stipend during the summer.
