Community Spotlight: Food Truck Keeps Students Fed this Summer

Fayar.net

For most kids, summer means free-time, fun and- most of all -no homework. But for some students no school can mean losing out on at least two meals.

This summer, the Fayetteville Public Schools Child Nutrition and Food Services Department is stepping in to provide meals for anyone age 18 or younger. The main site is located at Owl Creek Elementary and a new, custom-built food truck is open at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center and the Fayetteville Public Library each weekday. The truck helps FPS reach more students and will be used throughout the school year as part of the school's "Food Truck Dayz."

Director of Food Serives, Allison Mrachek talk about how the initiative helps de-stigmatize school food programs and she lets Pete Hartman pitch his name choice for the food truck.
