Of Note for Tuesday, April 28: Explosive and Expansive Britten

Pianist Elizabeth Joy Roe first learned Benjamin Britten's Piano Concerto, op. 13, while studying at Julliard. She's returned to the explosive piece in her new recording and states that the work is "much more than an empty showpiece. It's flashes of irony and clever interplay between piano and orchestra reveal keen artistic instincts" despite the youth of its 24-year-old composer. Catch Roe's performance of the piece, along with the London Symphony Orchestra under Emil Tabakov, on Tuesday's program.
