Violist David Aaron Carpenter explores the world of dreams on his 2013 release Dreamtime. The notes included with the album comment on the place Brahms’s Quintet in B minor holds on the recording: “If dreams frequently inhabit complementary, sometimes conflicting moods, so the Quintet makes an art of this.” The piece’s movement through human emotions lends it the ability to temporarily transport the mind to another world, just as in dreams.
