Johannes Brahms once said of Beethoven’s works, “You don’t know what it means to the likes of us when we hear his footsteps behind us.” Brahms felt a tremendous respect for his predecessors in the world of musical composition, staunchly refusing to allow his works to be performed publicly until he was confident they were worthy of following in those footsteps. The New Orford String Quartet echoes this reverence in their latest release; hear highlights on Tuesday’s program.
