Of Note for Tues., July 5, 2016: Filmscore, Filmscore Inspiration and More

Viennese composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold decided he wouldn't write anything other than film scores, which kept his family fed, until after Hitler's defeat. The first product of this statement, which was composed shortly after the end of World War II, was his luxurious violin concerto. Daniel Hope provides an exquisite rendering of it as the centerpiece to his Escape to Paradise: the Hollywood Album.

We'll also hear Philip Glass's music from The Hours distilled to piano performed by Valentina Lisitsa and turn to the piece that forever inspired film scores to come, as well as makes an appearance in many films (and tv shows and commercials) via its "O Fortuna" movement, Carl Orf's gargantuan Carmina Burana. Tune in from 8 to 10 p.m.
