KUAF Arts Beat: A monthlong celebration of women artists in Northwest Arkansas

This week three Fayetteville venues host kick-off events for "Intersections: A Month of Art and Performance Supporting Women," a collaboration between women artists, musicians and other luminaries throughout Northwest Arkansas dedicated to supporting and illustrating their impact on local culture.

"It's really celebrating and supporting anybody who identifies as a woman in many different sectors," says organizer Samantha Sigmon.

The first event includes visual art and pop-up classical music organized through Trillium Salon Series as part of Fayetteville's First Thursday on the downtown square. Stage 18 unveils a show of women artists curated by Sigmon and bassoonist Lia Uribe performs solo pop-up music at both Stage 18 and inside the new space of Fenix Gallery, which happens to be inside that castle-facade building on Center Street. Word on the street is that Uribe performs at 6 p.m. inside Fenix, before moving to Stage 18 around 7 p.m.

"We really want to show how many women are leaders in the creative field and leadership around town and Northwest Arkansas," says Sigmon.

Saturday night Backspace presents a women in music showcase hosted by Sigmon and Of Note's Katy Henriksen. Find out more about the five bands performing in the KUAF Arts Beat airing tonight at 8 p.m.

Keep up with all things arts with hashtag #artsbeatKUAF and tune in all month for more segments on this monthlong celebration of women in the arts.
