Starks scoured through posters from Soviet-era tobacco cessation campaigns in the Russian State Library, which features in her latest book.

Tricia Starks' latest book,"Cigarettes and Soviets: Smoking in the USSR," is one of six nominees for the 2023 Pushkin House Book Prize. The award recognizes outstanding English-language scholarship and writing on Russian culture and history.
