Sophia Nourani: I’m Sophia Nourani

Kyle Kellams: And you are —

Wai Kay Carenbauer: Wai Kay Carenbauer.

Kellams: I’m Kyle Kellams and it is time to talk tunes. All right, speaking of tunes, we’re going to hear one of the tunes that TIESHA performed.

Nourani: Yes, we’re going to hear Haunted at the end of this segment, which I’m excited to hear.

Carenbauer: She was so good.

Nourani: Yeah. Very talented.

Kellams: Haunted, a nice theme for some of our Talking Tunes events, because even though Halloween is still more than a week away, this area is really getting into the Halloween spirit of things.

Nourani: Definitely. And I’m glad we are. It’s my favorite time of the year.

Kellams: Let’s start with tonight. There’s some stuff going on, including something at the Ramble, Wai-Kay.

Carenbauer: Yes, the Upper Ramble has a DJ tonight. It’s, uh — they spin funk, soul and Latin house. Um, it’s — I guess they’re doing it quite a few Tuesdays, you know, up there just having different DJs. Um, and it’s free. Uh, it’s from 5:30 to 7:30. You just have to kind of go to the Ramble, take a blanket.

Kellams: Yeah. Temperatures are going to be in the 40s and 50s this week at night.

Carenbauer: I can’t wait.

Kellams: Also tonight, if we want to really extend the Halloween metaphor — you think of skeletons. The Razor Bones, which is the University of Arkansas Trombone Ensemble, performs tonight at Faulkner Performing Arts Center on the U of A campus. Uh, at, um, The Music Depot in downtown Rogers. It’s time for the live blues jam starting at 6:30. Razor Bones will start at 7:30 tonight, by the way, and it’s the fall choral showcase from University of Arkansas Fort Smith students. That’s 7 to 9 tonight. It’s free at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.

Nourani: I don’t think that’s too much of a stretch. Bones and skeletons.

Kellams: Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. For Wednesday night Seether— and Daughtry are at the Walmart AMP gates at 5:30, doors at 6:30. Help me out. Wasn’t Daughtry on American Idol, right?

Carenbauer: Was it that one? I think so — it wasn’t The Voice. It was American Idol.

Kellams: Yeah. Well, Seether and Industry will be at the AMP gates at 5:30, doors at 6:30 tomorrow night. Tickets from $38 to $170.And Beware the Beat from Latinx Theater will take place at Paragon Supply Company on Shiloh Street in Springdale, starting at 8 tomorrow night. This has a Halloween theme. It’s music written and created by the talented folks with Latinx Theater.

Nourani: Very cool. On Thursday evening, also in Springdale, Backroom Social Club will be hosting their Open Decks Remix Meetup. This is not the first time we’ve heard about this, but this week it’s a bit special because one of our HD3 hosts, JB, who hosts Movement Collective on HD3, will be hosting that event. So he’s going to be walking some folks through how to put together some mixing music and DJ stuff and all cool, cool things. And we also saw JB this past Thursday at our trivia night, so that’ll be nice to see him again.

Carenbauer: Oh, he mixed some music.

Nourani: Yeah, he did.

Kellams: It was a lot of fun.

Nourani: And that’s free. You can sign up there. And that’s from 8 to 12 on Thursday.

Kellams: Also Thursday night it’s the final autumn concert in the Levitt AMP Fort Smith music series. This is at 112 Riverfront Drive. Hopefully they’ll have another series in Spring, Alto Moon is the featured performer.

(Music: “Sunny” by Alto Moon plays.)

Kellams: At George’s Majestic Lounge Thursday night, Randall King will be on stage. He’s from West Texas. A self-described old soul, he’s signed to Warner Music Nashville. Doors at 7:30, music at 8:30. And at the 906 Lounge Thursday night in Fort Smith. Jimmy Atchison, who’s been playing music in Fort Smith for a while now — so pretty good. Thursday lineup?

Carenbauer: Uh, Friday — I have some Friday. I don’t have any Thursday.

Kellams: That’s okay. Um, you gotta rest at some point.

Carenbauer: That’s right. Um, Friday, TheatreSquared is hosting Candlelight Queen versus ABBA. Um, yes. Yeah.

Kellams: So this is a classical music take on Queen and ABBA, right?

Carenbauer: In only candlelight. So they turn all the lights off. You’re sitting in a bunch of candles. Um, and then the string quartet is playing.

Kellams: It’s in the West Theatre, which is where I just saw “Malcolm X and Red Fox Washing Dishes at Jimmie’s Chicken Shack in Harlem” this past week.

Carenbauer: This will be a little bit different than that, but probably not too different. Um, no, it’ll be very different. Tickets start at $53 and it’s at 1:30pm on Friday. Um, and then if, if you want to go straight over to the WAC after that, you can go see Camille Thurman Quartet.

(Music: "It's Only a Paper Moon" by Camille Thurman plays.)

Carenbauer: She’s headlined notable venues like the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Rose Theater. Um, she’s also won, like, all kinds of awards. Uh, if you’re into jazz, especially saxophone and singing. She’s very good.

Kellams: It’s part of the Starlight Jazz Club series at Walton Arts.

Carenbauer: Yeah. Uh, tickets start at $40 on that one. Um, and then after that, you can go to George’s for Thriller Night with Boom Kinetic. Boom Kinetic is kind of a cover band around town. So this is an ’80s Halloween event, and there is a costume contest happening there as well. And that one’s only $15. Starts at 9. You could really just layer that day.

Kellams: Well, and then also the happy hour at George’s on Friday is Ultrasuede. And usually the Ultrasuede show that’s close to Halloween has some sort of theme and they they get prepared for that. So you might have a Halloween thought, by the way, with the, um, the Queen versus ABBA Candlelight — check the times because they don’t let you in if you’re late. Yeah. That’s right. Once they shut the doors, you’re done. Yeah, because it’s billed as sort of an immersive multi-sensory. Yeah.

Carenbauer: You open the doors too hard, the candles could go out.

Kellams: That’s a good point. Also Friday night, John Dooley at Sassafras in Springdale from 6 until 9 Northwest. Speaking of Halloween, Northwest Arkansas Ballet is doing Dracula at the Faulkner Arts Center on campus. That starts at 7:30 and at the 906 Lounge in Fort Smith. Bordertown. I don’t know if they’re going to do any Halloween-like songs, but they’ll be at the Nine Hundred and Six Lounge on Friday night.

Nourani: Also happening on Friday, at the Momentary, Rum Wolf, a performance musician artist that we’ve heard from a few times, is going to be hosting Rum Wolf’s Howling Halloween Party. They’re going to have film showings. I believe the NWA Film Club is going to be showing a couple films there. They’re going to have on-site tattoos. I’m not sure on the details of that, but that sounds cool. Performance art and live music from Carbuncle the Singing Clown. DJ Death Mistress and Rum Wolf and The Schmucks. So that’ll be pretty cool. Tickets are $20, and that’s from 8 to 12 on Friday night.

Kellams: And that’s at the Momentary.

Nourani: Yes.

Kellams: Saturday’s got a lineup, too. Got us anything for Saturday, Sophie?

Nourani: So, uh, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, in the downtown area, they’re going to be hosting the second annual Fall Fest. They’re going to be having vendors, pumpkin painting. The main event is a chili cook-off. And they’re also going to be having live music from Canyon Suns, which we were talking about recently. Vince Turner and Garrett Heck. It’s free and all ages and it’s going from 9 to 4. So all day.

Kellams: Nice.

Carenbauer: Garrett Heck is the drummer in Medicine Horse.

Nourani: Oh. Oh that’s great too. We’re familiar with Medicine Horse.

Kellams: Yes we are.

Nourani: Also happening on Saturday in Fort Smith at JKC Cellars. The Teal Pumpkin Halloween Bash, which is really cool. I had never heard of this before. The Teal Pumpkin Initiative is a worldwide initiative that promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies by providing non-food treats around the Halloween season, so that’s really nice and inclusive. They’re going to be hosting games, face and pumpkin painting, and they’re going to have a DJ there, DJ Huney. That’s going to be from 2 to 4 at JKC Cellars. And it’s all ages.

Kellams: The Mixtapes, a great local band will be at George’s Majestic Lounge Saturday night. That will be, you know, the usual Saturday night times at George’s. Speaking of fun, local bands Dial Up Halloween Horror Nights at Ozark Music Hall Saturday night, beginning at 7, the Northeastern State University Opera Workhouse will have a celebration — work-house? That’s not what I’m saying. What am I trying to say? Workshop. Let’s just say it’s the opera students studying opera at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. They are going to have a celebration of the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss. That is going to be free in the Tahlequah Grand Ballroom Saturday night at 7.

Wanda Watson’s at the 906 Lounge Saturday night, beginning at 8. The Steinway — well, it’s the Close-Up Steinway Salon series. It’s going to be Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Arkansas — Saturday afternoon at the Steinway Gallery in Fayetteville, beginning at 3 o’clock. Sunday afternoon at the Steinway Gallery in central Arkansas. We’re going to hear more about that later this week on the show. Yes it is. Yes it is. Night of the Walking Dead dance party upstairs at the Grotto in Eureka Springs at 8 o’clock Saturday night. And, uh, Got A Hold Brewing in Eureka Springs Saturday beginning at 5, Kimberly Ruth Ann– don’t have access to any of her solo music yet, but she was with the indie-folk band Seven Hollows. This is part of that.

(Music: "Into the Woods" by Seven Hollows plays.)

Kimberly Ruth Ann will be at Got A Hold Saturday evening at 5. Sunday night at George’s– Jammy Buffett.

Nourani: Oh nice. Jimmy Buffett.

Kellams: So I’m, you know, I think some jam music. Jimmy Buffett. Yeah.

Nourani: Some Jim, some jam.

Carenbauer: Exactly a jam buffet. That’s funny.

Kellams: Doors at 7, music at 8 Sunday night. And the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in Little Rock will have their youth ensembles performing at Love Auditorium in Bryant, Arkansas. That will start at 7.
