Of Note for Tuesday, July 21, 2015: Maisky Unravels Ravel

Renowned cellist Mischa Maisky has brought life to the music of many composers over the years, but his Ravel is especially magical. Maisky was asked in a 2011 interview when he began playing cello. “The same year I quit smoking," he laughed. "Yes, very late. I started smoking at five and a half, but I quit when I was eight.” Luckily for listeners, Maisky has embraced good habits. Hear how his skills mingle with the music of Maurice Ravel on Tuesday’s program.
