His meditation on Robert Schumann's "Fantasy in C Major" reflects a desire to "create a sonority which echoes what Schumann called 'drawing a veil' over the music. What lies beneath the veil could be palpable, but one can never really tell what it is or what it looks like. This is the sense of the Fantasy—a grey area where reality and Romanticism coexist."
