Russian-American violinist Philippe Quint pairs the rich Tchaikovsky violin concerto with a lesser known string quartet from Anton Stepanovich Arensky to convey a deep connection between two composers. Quint writes in the liner notes that Arensky crowns Tchaikovsky as the "Tsar of the composer" when he injects a Tchaikovsky theme in the final movement of the work. Hear the entirety on Tuesday's program from Quint and Lily Franis, violins; Claudio Bohorquez and Nicolas Altstaedt, cellos.
