KUAF Arts Beat: Empowering Women through Documentary Film

Filmmakers Sarah Moshman and Dana M. Cook traveled 7,000 miles from coast to coast in 30 days to interview 17 inspiring women, resulting in the documentary The Empowerment Project.

"Our architect said it best," explains Cook of subject Katherine Darnstadt. "She lives her life by being bold and naive.

"That really struck a chord with us as filmmakers. That was really the theme of making this film. Had we known all of the obstacles in front of us we probably wouldn't have made the film. But we were very bold and completely naive going into it and it served us very well."

Watch the entirety of the film, hosted by the filmmakers themselves, at a screening tonight presented by the Women's Foundation of Arkansas as part of the "Power of the Purse" event at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center on the UA campus in Fayetteville. There will be a panel discussion with the filmmakers as well as women leaders from the University of Arkansas following the screening.
