Of Note for Wed., June 22, 2016: Poetry in The Far West

Zachary Wadsworth describes poet Tim Dlugos’ work as “affirmations, bright and defiant in their optimism, their light, and their life.”

Although Wadsworth came upon Dlugos’ poetry entirely by accident, these poems served as a source of inspiration for the composer. Dlugos, who died himself from complications due to AIDS at 40, writes about the gay experience within themes of loss and reconciliation. These concepts are set to music in Wadsworth's The Far West, an album that combines the power of Calgary’s Luminous Voices choir with the gravity of Dlugos’ written word. Hear it in its entirety from 11 to noon on KUAF.
