Fort Smith Symphony Dives Deep with Music of Florence Price

concert-6.jpg

The Fort Smith Symphony closes out the season with Arkansas-born composer Florence Price. In addition to performing her 1st and 4th symphonies, the orchestra embarks on a recording project with classical label stalwart Naxos to release all four of Price's symphonies.

As this season wraps, we also look to the season ahead. With eclectic pieces that range from classical favorites to the world premiere of a dubstep piece, Music Director John Jeter hopes to energize audiences and break down preconceived notions of what a symphony is supposed to be.

"We're just trying to embrace this idea of music being such a healthy and positive experience," He says. "And trying to get further and further away from this old school view of an orchestra as being this stiff thing."
