Approachable Opera: A Local Company Challenges Stereotypes through Pop-Up Performances

Opera Fayetteville concludes its series of pop-up performances at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks this week.

This is the second season of "Opera in Bloom," which includes eight short (10 minutes or less) operas each performed at different public locations in Northwest Arkansas. From coffee shops to the mall, organizers Tamara Ryan and Chris Frisco are determined to share opera with wider- even skeptical -audiences.

Frisco says that it is "amazing to bring opera into the real world, into people's lives in these unexpected ways."

The final concert, in which all eight of the operas will be performed,  is Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

Daniel Caruth is KUAF's Morning Edition host and reporter for Ozarks at Large.
