Food banks across the country are struggling to make up a $1 billion budget shortfall - after the Trump administration cut aid to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Emergency Food Assistance Program last month. In Arkansas, where more than 587,000 people are considered food insecure, food banks and benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are often critical.

Vince Hall is the chief of government relations for Feeding America, a nonprofit food bank network. He spoke with Ozarks at Large's Daniel Caruth about the role food banks and the emergency assistance program play in addressing hunger.
