Gabe Mayhan is an Arkansan working in film. He grew up in Vilonia, a town of about 4,500 people, and was told, as the first in his family to attend college, that his passion—photography—was a hobby, not a career. But he pursued it.

Now, he’s a cinematographer and producer whose work is especially in the spotlight this spring. The documentary “Southern Fried Lies,” about three mysterious deaths in Camden, Arkansas, is currently available to stream on Peacock. Additionally, the theatrical movie “The Grotto,” written and directed by Joanna Gleason, has just been released.
